THE CATHOLICISM UNDER THE FRANCO REGIME IN THE EDITORIALS OF THE SPANISH DAILY « YA » (1939-1945) In the early years of the Franco regime the discourse of Catholicism continued building up its new-found identity, an identity which had sprung from the Spanish civil war. It represented itself as emanating from the discourse of general Franco, who himself is raised to a state of sacredness by it.
