A fractured rod assembly of an aircraft was sent to the laboratory for analysis. The component is made of a number of aluminium alloy tubes joined to each other by welding. Analysis revealed that the tube had fractured at one of the welds by overload. Metallographic examination suggests that inadequate weld joint and weld defects were responsible for the failure
