This paper describes the effect that the issue of ozone depletion has on the owners and operators of large commercial water chillers that currently use chlorofluorocarbons (CFC's) for refrigeration. The production ban of CFC's mandated by international law will eliminate production on January 1, 1996. The actions taken by owners and operators of large water chillers will depend upon a variety of factors that will be addressed. This paper will also document the actions taken by three owners of large water chillers in addressing the CFC issue.
