The research carried out in France on physiological quality of planting stock showed the possibility to improve the performance after planting in Northern red oak. Four points were considered : precautions to avoid dessication, long-term cold storage in bags, best lifting dates and best planting dates. Fresh seedlings have to be planted in fall. For late-winter plantings, seedlings lifted from mid-November to mid-January and cold-stored in sealed bags will perform better than freshly-lifted seedlings ; moreover, plantations will be preferably established before mid-March. / Les recherches conduites en France sur la physiologie des plants montrent qu'il est possible d'améliorer la performance du chêne rouge en plantation.
