linewaysWhere family lots adjoined in the forest, or bordered on Crown Lands, boundaries were merely blazed. In Freshwater, for example, where many of the lots were surveyed and granted by the government, open paths or "lineways" acted as boundaries through the wooded sections of the property. Poles were nailed to trees at intervals along the boundary, and at the corners where they indicated the direction of the "lineways." [see "line"]PRINTED ITEM DNE-cit G. M.
