Nevertheless, from the French-Dutch agreement of 1836 to the "Frenchifying" of the 1960s, the history of the Maroons cannot be amputated of its legal dimension: France, sometimes respecting the legal orthodoxy, endows them with fragments of legal status, sometimes clearly choosing the illegality, endows them with fragments of de facto status. This situation is the joint work of the French authorities and of the Maroons, which alternately played with the law.La situation des Marrons en Guyane française intéresse rarement les juristes. Pourtant, de la convention franco-néerlandaise de 1836 à la «francisation» des années 1960, l’histoire de ces Marrons ne peut être amputée de sa dimension juridique : la France, tantôt respectant l'orthodoxie juridique, les dote de fragments de statut de droit, tantôt s’engageant nettement dans l'illégalité, les dote de fragments de statut de fait.
