The Restoration of the Former Zlín County Court

The aim of the thesis was to create documentation for building permit and a part of building design documentation, based on architectural study prepared in subject named AG34 – Architectural Design Studio IV. Main content of the study was reconstruction of the former Zlín county court building and finding a new function for the object that is situated near Zlín castle, Míru square and Svobody park. Basic idea of the project was to utilize as large part of the prime building as is possible, avoid increasing of the built-up area and design a context-friendly object that will bring some new life in this part of the town. Important was also underlining of the most impressive parts of the building that are baroque vaults in the ground floor and frontage from 1922 in the “Czech Modernism” style. Worrisome extension from the 1990’s got a lighter “Czech Modernism” expression, its scale was humanized using brickwork and a new terrace with a clear shot at the Zlín castle was created. The parterre is now friendlier and invites passers-by to visit the new micro-brewery. A literary café with a small gallery provides some cultural activities and also a bicycle rental is here to provide some physical activities too. Upper floors consist a pension and a hostel
