Renovation of the monastery in Zákupy

Within the bachelor thesis the following objectives are set: 1) preparation of documentation for building permits, 2) parts of documentation for construction implementation. The starting point for both of these objectives is the architectural study, which was developed in the course AG35 – Atelier for the Restoration of Monuments. The theme of the studio work was to design the restoration and new functional use of a historic building in the centre of Zákupy. The building of the original monastery, dating from the 19th century, is located in the conservation area of the town. Taking into account a thorough analysis, a new multifunctional use is proposed: a post office, a library/multifunctional hall, facilities for local clubs and associations, facilities for physical activities and rental space for services. The restoration of the monument seeks a coherent form for the building, with the period layer seen as the most valuable. The relationship between the functional and representative form of the building is also examined. This duality serves as a vital compass throughout the design process. During the reconstruction, emphasis will be placed not only on its preservation, but also on its cultivation through new materials or interventions
