Stará Boleslav (Central Bohemia) - Přemyslid stronghold in the early middle ages

Boleslav is one of the most frequently mentioned Czech Early Medieval sites in the written records of the Middle Ages. The reason for this is an event that took place here, at the seat of a member of the ruling Přemyslid family, and which was a key moment in the formative period of the early Czech state - the murder of Prince Wenceslas by his brother Boleslav. Until the end od the 1980's the reports of such written sources, which were concerned mainly with the person of Prince Wenceslas, were essentially the only source of information about the site, which - as a place belonging to the Přemyslids and later a capitular seat played an importatn role in the early period of the development of the Přemyslid state in particular, although in the late Middle Ages its importance declined.
