This suspension bridge is the first of its type built in Irak. Its structure is mainly of steel, though the deck is a compound construction of steel and concrete. It has three spans: a central one of 168 m length, and two lateral ones, each 84 m long. There are also two approach spans, each of 23 m, which have been made necessary due to the weakness of the soil. This is also the reason why the abutments do not support the load on the cables, so that the structure is anchored to itself: to achieve this the foundations have been reinforced with steel.
