PARTICIPACIÓN POLÍTICA Y VIOLENCIA DE GÉNERO EN AMÉRICA LATINA

This paper focuses on a reflection and analysis of\ud socio-cultural and institutional factors that affect women’s\ud political participation Latin America, such as gender-based\ud harassment and violence. This problem is a\ud new expression that has adopted gender-based violence\ud in political arena, restricting not only the exercise of\ud women’s political rights but also their right to live a life\ud free of violence.\ud Despite Latin American countries have enacted laws\ud to create conditions in terms of gender equality in political\ud participation, political harassment and violence still\ud occurs. However, these policy actions are not enough\ud to ensure women’s access to decision-making positions,\ud such as quotas or parity; it must also be legal bodies to\ud ensure, in addition to their political rights, their personal\ud safety and human rights
