Violence against women is a serious violation of human rights that undermines gender equality and human development. In the last three decades, the states in Latin America and the Caribbean have reached agreements on regional and international norms and standards to address violence against women that created a baseline that allowed the sanction of legal systems, public policies and action plans against violence against women.
