International audienceOn July 2, 1804, the Congrégation de l ’Index condemned Jacques le fataliste by Diderot, Erotika Biblion by Mirabeau, and Voltaire’s Romans et contes in a single decree. This article describes how these three cases were examined and explains the grounds for banning them.
