International audienceUpon gaining independence, the Republic of Djibouti, just as the formerly colonized countries, renewed labour law implemented during the colonial period. This situation is marked by the lack of a normative creativity, which is unique in Africa and has lasted for almost half a century up until the economic crisis of 90’s. This crisis impelled the Djiboutian authorities to turn to “International Financial Institutions” which had compelled them to disentangle from social and economic life. The reform of the labor law initiated in 1997 and endorsed by the adoption of the labor code in 2006 comes within this approach.
