Cutaneous radiation syndrome (CRS) is a specific skin lesion caused by high dose local irradiation. It is characterized by severe pain, extensive inflammatory waves, incomplete revascularization and wound healing. For the last few years, mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) have become a promising cell source for cell therapy. MSC are multipotent cells which can transdifferentiate and secrete many paracrine factors involved in tissue regeneration, and they may be considered as a new therapeutic strategy for the management of this pathology.
