The article pleads for the rebirth of a philosophical cosmology as an essential tool to understand the present. Indeed the globalisation is closely linked with the concept of world, but what such a concept really means is far to be clear. On the contrary we observe a lack of interest for questioning the nature of the world. Worldlessness belongs to the paradoxical feature of the global age. Explaining why this is so, the article sketches how in 20th century several philosophers readdressed the notion of the world, their attempt to construct a new Weltanschauung in the strict sense of the word.
