The primary objective of this investigation was the exploration of possible relationships between the evaporation resistances (r) of two-component monolayers and various thermodynamic quantities which can be evaluated from the surface pressure-area (II-Â) isotherms. The system, octadecanol-docosyl sulphate monolayers on a substrate of 0.1 M KCl, was selected because it satisfied various experimental requirements, because both components gave monolayers which had measurable evaporation resistances, and because the system could be expected to exhibit marked deviations from "ideality.". In this paper the necessary experimental procedures are described and experimental II-A and r-II data for monolayers of each pure component are presented and d...
