In einigen englischsprachigen Ländern ist in den letzten Jahren eine von der Marktideologie geprägte Neuorientierung in der Bildungspolitik zu beobachten. Für die wissenschaftliche Begründung hat das kürzlich erschienene Buch von John E. Chubb und Terry M. Moe "Politics, Markets, and America\u27s Schools" besondere Bedeutung erlangt. Die Autoren erheben darin den Anspruch, den empirischen Nachweis für die Überlegenheit eines marktgesteuerten Schulwesens liefern zu können. Der vorliegende Beitrag setzt sich kritisch mit dieser Arbeit auseinander.
