This paper will first discuss the reasons why people invent systems of movement notation and some of the problems they may encounter in so doing. A review of a few notation systems from the past will illustrate ways in which these problems have been tackled. Second, some detail will be given of a notation system which describes movement not only in terms of what is done but also how it is done
