Canine prostate pathologies

Goal of the master thesis is to assess the most common clinical signs of canine prostate pathology. Objectives of the study are: to summarize the literary data on canine prostate pathologies, their diagnosis and treatment, to assess the connection between the age and clinical signs of canine prostate pathology, to assess the connection between body weight and clinical signs of canine prostate pathology, to compare the effectiveness of canine prostate pathologies treatment methods. The study was carried out in 2011 - 2012 in six private Vilnius and Kaunas small animal veterinary clinics. During the study of 50 dogs, who have been diagnosed with prostate pathology, 29 dogs were selected who have experienced the following symptoms: urinary incontinence, hematuria, urinary retention, difficulty in defecating and dysuria. Canine prostate pathology signs were assessed based on age, weight, diagnosis, treatment and outcome. We have analyzed the connection and correlation of data reliability. The link between prostate pathology symptoms, age and body weight were found in the study. We found out that the higher risk to get prostate pathology is for the dogs older than 6 years old and those who weight more than 44 kg.We also noticed that there is a statistical reliable relationship between prostate pathology and outcome of the disease, as well as between dysuria and outcome of the disease. Evaluated research and literary data states that prostate pathology, its treatment and outcome depend on the clinical signs and their severity. Therefore it is extremely important to accurately assess the symptoms on time. This would facilitate the animal treatment and would help to prevent animal euthanasia
