Opinion of the employees of a joint stick company to the peimary health care

SUMMARY Management of public health The health of people is influenced by the people’s living and working environment, by the attitude towards their health and by availability of prophylactical and medical treatment services at the medical institutions. The aim of the study is to evaluate an attitude of the employees of the joint stock company “Žemaitijos pienas” towards prophylactical medical checkups and the accessibility to the health care services. The methodology of the research. An anonymous survey using questionnaire was carried out among the employees in April 2006. Both employees and administration participated in the survey. 250 questionnaires were distributed, out of which 238 were received back (the response rate of 95,2 perc). Statistical analysis of the data was done with the help of the program package of SPSS 10th version. The results. Many employees (82,4 perc.) thought that prophylactical medical checkups were necessary. The employees gave 3,30 points (avg.2,5 points) in evaluating the quality and organization of prophylactic checkups which was better than an average. Respondents gave 3,2 points for the time spent in checkups; 3,2 points for doctor’s carefulness in medical checkup; 3,80 points for carring out default tests; 4,1 points for the adherance to the complaints; 4,5 points for the measuring blood pressure; 1,9 points for the advices on the healthy lifestyle. Looking at the statistics, the employees gave higher evaluation marks than the administrative personnel to the quality and organization of the prophylactical checkups. 39,1 perc. of respondents had visited their family doctor at least once in the last 12 months; 57,1 perc. had seen the doctor at preappointed time; 64,5 perc. of those who had not been invited at the apprinted time had to wait 15-45 min. Respondents gave satisfactory or partial satisfactory evaluation for the registration procedures at the doctor’s office (71,0 perc); the procedures in signing for the hospital; for the system of medical care (60,5 perc.). As the statistical data shows, the employees gave higher evaluation marks than the administrative personnel to the registration procedures at the doctor’s office and to the medical system in general. Conclusions. The employees evaluated the quality and organization of prophylactical medical checkups better than average (3,3 points), however, they pointed out the lack of attention towards the formation of healthy lifestyle. The prophylactical medical checkups were valued higher by the employees than the administrative personnel. The accessibility to the medical care is limited as only half of the employees were able to see the doctor at the appointed time, almost one third were unhappy about the registration procedures and the system of the medical care
