Accretion at subduction margins is a tectonic process that provides movement and transfer of surface sediments and rocks through an ever-increasing pressure-temperature-strain regime, at depths ranging from 1 km to around 80 km. The resulting accretionary wedge is then the external expression of one of the main tectonic mechanisms of continental crust growing. The late-Neoproterozoic/early-Phanerozoic Damara Belt in central Namibia records the convergence and eventual collision of the Kalahari and Congo Cratons between ca. 580 and 540-510 Ma and shows a remarkable preservation of its original architecture.
