This paper explores social-spatial division in the context of urban sprawl and metropolis development. The selected approach relies upon a multi-scalar space-time analysis: from metropolitan to local processes. Both quantitative and qualitative methods are combined in order to grasp the intrinsic complexity of social processes, which is reinforced by metropolitan dynamics. Thus, the analysis of the suburban area of the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte highlights that these spaces converge towards a greater social diversity.
