Workshop Omgevingskwaliteit

During a short workshop the concept of 'quality' was presented and discussed from four different perspectives: a health care, a socio-cultural, a socio-psychological, and an environmental perspective. It was concluded that there still exists a major gap between theory (rather abstract) and practice (mainly data-driven). Furthermore it was considered important to maintain the distinction between the subjective (e.g. perceived environmental quality) and the objective (e.g. measurable, countable) features of the quality concept. Regarding the goals the concept should serve an analysis of environmental policy goals was suggested. Finally, it was concluded that clear-cut definitions of environmental quality were still lacking. This workshop will be continued in 2001. It will focus on the quality of the (urban) residential environment. Next to the health and environmental perspective other perspectives will be discussed
