Road safety in the Netherlands of drivers from Middle and Eastern European Member States; An exploratory study. In November 2011, Dutch Parliament passed a resolution, put forward by the PVV. It was established in this resolution that the number of registered crashes involving drivers from so-called MEE countries was increasing. MEE countries are Mid- and East-European EU countries. This resolution requested the Minister of Infrastructure and the Environment to investigate whether the increase in the number of registered crashes involving drivers from the MEE countries may possibly be the result of a lower quality of the driving courses in MEE countries. The Minister of Infrastructure and the Environment confirmed that this would be investigated and that the following two questions would be answered: 1. Which driving skills requirements are demanded in the EU Member States, with the emphasis on the MEE Member States? 2. Can any notable facts (e.g. relatively more crashes and relatively more offences) be observed in relation with the driving behaviour of drivers from other EU Member States, with the emphasis on the MEE Member States?
