From 1901 to 1905 Kahler studied drawing at the private school of Heinrich Knirr, then, attended the Kunstakademie München (Munich Academy of Fine Arts), where he studied under Franz von Stuck. Kahler also took private tutorials at Hugo von Habermann (1849-1929), who was a German painter and draftsman.
