This article presents a current research pro-ject, included in the Transnat program (IHMC, Saarbrücken Univ.), supported by the ANR and DFG. This historical study of the transla-tion of literature into French adopts quantita-tive as well as editorial historical perspectives. In this article, we endeavor to demonstrate through the initial results how, for instance, the articulation of quantitative and spatial history of arts and literature may question the traditional thesis of cultural studies on transla-tion: that this hybridizing operation is a phe-nomenon of fringes, borders and peripheries
