Resurgence of the Economic Geography and Paul Krugman

Abstract: Este artículo analiza los factores que explican el resurgimiento de la geografía económica y su relevancia para la economía regional y urbana. El eje central del análisis gravita alrededor de dos interrogantes fundamentales ¿Cuáles son los aportes de Krugman que marcan la diferencia con los enfoques tradicionales en el campo de la geografía económica? Y ¿Cuáles son los rasgos distintivos de la Nueva Geografía Económica, NEG? El estudio hace una breve revisión de los antecedentes conceptuales y luego desarrolla los principales aportes de los modelos de geografía económica introducidos por Krugman en Geography and Trade. Abstract This article analyzes the factors that explain the upsurging of the economic geography and the relevance for the regional and urban economics. The analysis gravitates around two questions: What are Krugman's contributions that make the difference with the traditional approaches at the economic geography's field? And Which are the distinctive characteristics of the New Economic Geography, NEG? The study performs a succinct checkup of the theoretical background and, afterwards develops the main contributions of the models of economic geography introduced by Krugman in Geography and Trade
