Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh kondisi reaksi yang paling efektif untuk\ud konversi gugus karboksilat menjadi gugus amida. Reaksi dilakukan dengan 2 metode yaitu metode konversi langsung dan metode bertahap (melalui esterifikasi yang dilanjutkan dengan amidasi). Analisis data penelitian menggunakan metode kualitatif melalui spektrofotometri InfraRed (FT-IR), spektroskopi 13C-NMR, dan 1H-NMR. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa senyawa target dapat diperoleh melalui metode konversi bertahap, sedangkan pada penggunaan metode langsung mengakibatkan pembukaan ikatan rangkap dua C=C olefinat. Reaksi amidasi melalui metode bertahap dengan pirolidin diperoleh produk samping berupa senyawa karbon alifatik
