UGA LAW SCHOOL ENROLLS FIRST CLASS OF THE NEW MILLENNIUM

Kennedy, Admissions Director, (706) 542-7060 UGA LAW SCHOOL ENROLLS FIRST CLASS OF THE NEW MILLENNIUM ATHENS, Ga. -- The first group of law students to graduate in the new millennium -- the Class of 2001 -- has begun classes at the University of Georgia School of Law. A total of 190 students reported for Orientation, being held over three days -- August 21, 24 and 25. The entering students\u27 median Law School Admissions Test score is 160, a score exceeded by fewer than 20 percent of all test takers nationwide. Their median grade point average is an impressive 3.51. In keeping with the law school\u27s commitment to provide the finest legal education to state residents, 152 of the students, or 80 percent, are Georgians. Women comprise 46 percent of the class, and minorities, 15 percent; 24 of the minority students are African American and 4 are Asian/Pacific Islanders. The average age of the entering students is 24. The group includes graduates from 66 institutions in 26 states. The schools supplying the largest number of students include the University of Georgia (62), the Georgia Institute of Technology (8), the University of Florida (7), Georgia State University (6), and Emory University (5). Other primary feeder schools are the University of Virginia, Vanderbilt University, and Berry College. We are very pleased with the credentials of this entering class and by the fact that such a significant number of them -- 80 percent -- are Georgia residents, said David E. Shipley, law school dean.
