Kennedy, Admissions Director, (706) 542-7060 CLASS OF 2000 ENROLLS AT UGA SCHOOL OF LAW ATHENS, Ga. -- The University of Georgia School of Law has enrolled the Class of 2000, and the academic credentials of its members are impressive, with a median grade point average considerably higher than last year. A total of 233 students reported for orientation Monday. Their median grade point average is 3.55, up from 3.43 last year, and their median Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) score of 161 places them among the top 15 percent of all test takers nationwide. In keeping with the law school\u27s commitment to provide the finest legal education to state residents, 184 of the students, or 79 percent, are Georgians. Women comprise 46 percent of the class, and minorities, 9 percent. The average age of the students is 24. The group includes graduates from 92 institutions in 20 states. The schools supplying the largest number of students include the University of Georgia (68), the Georgia Institute of Technology (11), Emory (9), Furman (7), and the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill (6). We are very pleased with the talent of this entering class, both in terms of scholarship and personal achievement, said Edward D. Spurgeon, law school dean. Many of our new students have succeeded in previous careers as engineers, scientists, teachers, accountants or veterans before enrolling in law school and have been energetic public service volunteers.
