This article explores several aspects of Minoan religion on the basis of textual, iconographic and archaeological evidence. In the first part, it is argued that it is more likely that the Minoans had a polytheistic than a monotheistic belief system that was based on the Mother Goddess, as was argued by Arthur Evans. The second part of the article explores whether Linear A documents can provide information about the organisation of religious matters in Neopalatial Crete. It was argued that in several cases, such as the Temple Repositories at Knossos and the so-called archive at Zakro, there is a clear and certain connexion with religion and that the contents of the tablets may reflect on religious administration.
