This dissertation is a case study on the public provision of sporting facilities in Bristol from 1945-1975. It will look at the extent of national government involvement in sport during this period and test whether a study of a local region followed the same trends. It will attempt to discover how the sporting scene changed and developed in Bristol 1945-1975 and what the key driving factors were. This will enable us to understand and gain a comprehensive picture of the development for public provision for sport and determine what role the local government had in providing it.
