Essentially changing at all time scales, the landscape morphology gives information about the territorial system which produces it, and offers physiognomic indicators to follow the evolutions of this system. Using the landscape in that way appears particularly interesting to analyse spaces where different land-uses are conflicting and where hybrid landscapes are emerging (periurban fallow lands, Amazonian pioneer fronts) ; both on semiologic and aesthetic points of view, such landscapes are very far from the archetypes and stereotypes which are considered as the cultural referential for the interpretation of the environment in the occidental civilisation. As they partly determine social decisions, these archetypes and stereotypes, whether positive or negative, have a great influence on the production of landscape itself. At the same time, the shape and the formal structure of landscape have also a strong influence on its functioning and its mutations (cf contributions of landscape ecology).Le paysage se trouve à la croisée de la matérialité et des représentations. Profondément mobile à toutes les échelles de temps, la morphologie paysagère renseigne sur le système territorial qui la produit, et fournit des indicateurs physionomiques pour suivre ses évolutions. Cette utilisation du paysage s'avère particulièrement intéressante dans les espaces où ces évolutions engendrent la superposition d'usages du sol différents et produisent des paysages hybrides (friches périurbaines, fronts pionniers amazoniens), en rupture sémiologique et esthétique avec les archétypes et stéréotypes paysagers qui servent de référentiel de lecture du réel au sein de la civilisation occidentale. Parce qu'elles déterminent pour partie les choix sociaux, ces représentations, positives ou négatives, influent en retour sur les processus qui produisent le paysage, de la même manière que la structuration formelle de ce dernier influence son fonctionnement et ses mutations (apports de l'écologie du paysage)
