La fabrique sociale : autonomisation et légitimation dans le domaine de l’information de santé

International audienceMore than one third of the French population searches health information on the Internet, a trend which kept growing over the last years. Traditional authorities (health professionals, experts, etc.) have to deal with patients who gather information and build illness representations from alternative sources (discussion groups, blogs, associative websites, etc.). In a society where individuals are constantly being asked to support themselves, they need to feel involved in their healthcare. The evolutions presently taking place in the field of health information are connected to larger social trends and they unveil their full meaning when linked to these structural conditions: the renewal of the confidence in the expert systems, the enhancement of social autonomy and the enlargement of the well-being culture. This paper focuses on the analysis of these wide social trends. Their impact on health information will be discussed in the last part of the paper through the presentation of the findings of an empirical research on health discussion groups.Plus d’un Français sur trois cherche des informations de santé sur Internet, une tendance en augmentation constante ces dernières années. Les autorités traditionnelles (médecins, experts, etc.) sont confrontées à des informations et à des représentations alternatives de la maladie (issues des forums, blogs, sites des associations, etc.). Dans une société où il est constamment invité à se prendre en charge, l’individu ne peut plus déléguer entièrement la gestion de sa santé. Les évolutions actuelles de l’information de santé font ainsi écho à des mutations sociales d’ampleur et elles gagnent à être interprétées à la lumière de leurs conditions structurantes : renouvellement de la confiance dans les systèmes experts, autonomisation sociale et propagation de la culture du « bien être ». Ce texte est principalement consacré à l’analyse de ces conditions d’ampleur. Leur articulation avec l’information de santé sera discutée dans une dernière partie à travers la présentation des résultats d’une recherche empirique portant sur les forums de santé
