In a context of energy tension, mainly due to rising consumption, theconstruction of large dams was resumed in Latin America ten years ago, as a follow-upto projects carried out by dictatorial governments in the 1970s. These huge projects,which take place on the world’s largest rivers such as the Amazon, the Paraná, theMarañon or the Madeira, are preferentially located in peripheral and unexploited borderareas.
