Studies on unilateral sciatic denervation in frogs revealed that two cathepsins occurring in the gastrocnemius muscle showed elevated activities in the denervated muscle. The proteolytic activity of the muscles on different exogenous substrates was increased in the denervated muscle. Activation by KCl was stronger in the denervated muscle
