Spicer & Gergely obstrved that superprecipited actomyosin (AM) can be dissolved under a certain condition. From this observation, Szent-Gyorgyi assumed that AM dissociates in aecordonce with the decrease temperature. The authors have empasized that muscular contraction is a specific process utili-zing the splitting energy of ATP but that relaxation is a non-specific to ATP. Therefore, in the present paper the results observed by Spicer were reexamined. The primary object of the present studies is to determie whether superprecipitated AM can be dissolved by pyrophosphate or salyrgan which are known to bring about relaxation or derigor of the glycerinated muscle fiber.
