In the preceding report, the histological and histochemical pattern of the chorioallantoic membranes infected in vivo with ectromelia virus were presented. The present paper deals with the metabolic changes in the membranes infected in vivo or in vitro with the virus, as biochemically examined. 1. Metabolic changes developing in the infected membranes were characterized by an increase in anaerobic glycolysis, lactic acid, pyruvic acid and in inorganic phoshate, by a decrease in ATP-ADP phosphate and by an alteration in aerobic oxydation. 2.
