The effects of 3 split applications of nitrogen and potash fertilizers and 2 planting densities on yield and some agronomic traits evaluated in the second crop of 1964 and the first crop of 1965 at Chiayi Agricultural Experiment Station are reported. Split fertilizations generally outyielded conventional one in both crop. The yield increase appeared to be due largely to the increase in either number of grains per panicle or grain weight. Grain yield was also increased by close spac-ing which was attributable to increase in the number of panicles per unit area.
