Grippe Making Great Headway

• Greater Boston hospital authorities and physicians are in agreement that nothing can be gained by denying that the grippe epidemic is “making great headway”• The authorities agree that the public should be warned of the need for cooperation to prevent the spread of the disease• The disease has caused 47 deaths out of 2273 total cases in the 1st Naval District• With nearly 200 cases to handle, the City Hospital doctors began wearing masks to minimize the danger to themselves• Dr. W.L. Bryan, Federal Health official for the Naval district remains confident that the epidemic will be headed off. • In the Naval district, 257 new cases were reported yesterday; 126 Sunday; and 191 Saturday• Since Sunday there have been 10 deaths at the Chelsea Naval Hospital• 81 cases were reported at the aviation school in Cambridge; 18 on Sunday; and 18 on Saturday, bringing the total to 221• Commonwealth Pier reported 28 cases; 23 Sunday; and 27 Saturday• 11 cases developed at Highland training school, which had no cases previously• Other new cases include 10 at the Navy Yard; 11 at Fore River, 36 at Wakefield Rifle Range; 59 at Portsmouth Naval Prison; 33 at Commonwealth Armory; and 2 at Army Headquarters, Chauncy• 22 deaths of pneumonia and 30 of influenza were reported among the civilians of Boston between Saturday and yesterday noon• Health Commissioner W.C.
