Extend Flu Ban At Once

• Policy: A modified quarantine order was authorized today by the board of health and health officer Dr. J.B. Anderson • Policy: There will only be one church service at each church a week in Spokane• Policy: There will be no seating beyond seating capacity in churches and theatres• Policy: There will be no service or program given to attract crowds; this includes community singing• Policy: Theatres are required to close daily between 5 and 7 p.m. to air out• Policy: Stores and business houses are to prevent crowding and if necessary, keep officers on duty to prevent it from occurring• Policy: All private and public dancing is forbidden• Policy: All street car operators are to only seat passengers where there is a seat; no seating beyond capacity• Policy: Elevators are only to carry at half capacity level of passengers• Policy: Absolutely necessary business meetings are only to be conducted by the executive board• There was a disturbance when it was suggested by school board member Attorney D.B. Heil that there be a limited ban on public meetings; protesters were warned by police to be quiet or leave the meeting• President Fleming advised the police officers to remove anyone who interrupts a speaker of the board• Dr. Frank Moore, a chiropractor, attacked the medical profession and advised he had a cure for influenza • Although most physicians favored a strict and immediate quarantine, Dr. Anderson advised it would be impossible to enforce • During the meeting, all windows were left open to allow for ventilation• Speaker and attorney W.A. Monten advised organizing all agencies of relief and better handling of medical cases with a health office “open day and night” • Speaker Rev. R.T.T. Hicks of the Episcopal church advises the closing of churches is “an insult in the face of God”, but gave credit to Spokane physicians for the work they are doing• Attorney Heil questioned why the quarantine is not stricter, stating the earlier quarantine protected the children, but this one does not as evidenced by the high number of children afflicted• Attorney B.H.
