Report 362 New Influenza Cases

• Whether a limited or general influenza quarantine will be imposed will be decided today at a meeting of the city board of health• The meeting will be open to the public and doctors, ministers, business men and citizens generally are invited to express their views• Because of the continued increase in influenza, Dr. John B. Anderson, City Health Officer said that he would impose a limited quarantine even if the board of health does not call for a general quarantine, such as prevailed for the six week period beginning October 9• Dr. Anderson described the limited quarantine as one in which theaters will close from 5 to 7 p.m. to be ventilated by opening of doors and windows; large church services intended to attract crowds will be prohibited (devotional exercises will be permitted); lodges and unions will not be able to hold initiations or large gatherings, but may conduct brief business meetings once or twice a month• In essence the quarantine would call for a ban on any assemblage calculated to call a large number of people together • At the meeting people will be allowed to express their views and the board of health is especially interested to hear the opinion of physicians• Commissioner Fleming, President of the Board of Health said that he would oppose no recommendation made by Dr. Anderson.• The emergency hospital had to be fitted with extra beds to accommodate the number of new patients• Inland Mattress Company donated 10 mattresses to the emergency hospital• People “flocked” to the city health office yesterday for the anti-influenza serum treatment and 222 doses were administered• Theaters and hotels yesterday were ordered to discontinue community singing• Because of the change in the influenza situation Dr. John B. Anderson, City Health Officer has called off his trip to the national influenza conference in ChicagoNewspaper article
