The Epidemic Subsiding

*Epidemic is subsiding. The bulk of cases are in the Greek neighborhood.*The Board of Health has not made a decision regarding restrictions. Businessmen are becoming increasingly anxious.*Dr. C. R. Eskey, Assistant Surgeon of the PHS, who is in charge of the Pawtucketville Isolation Hospital, reports that conditions there are excellent.*The third ward of the Isolation Hospital now has 12 beds, but it has not yet been opened. The hospital has experienced difficulties because most of the patients at this hospital are non-English speakers [no details indicated]. The majority of patients are women and children.*Dr. D. Dr Bell of the YMCA wrote a letter to Dr. Pierre Brunelle, Chairman of the Board of Health, stating that Lowell’s restaurants are filthy; he will appear at Monday’s Board of Health meeting to discuss his findings. *Dr. L. E. Grimes, a public health surgeon, was assigned by Captain Draper [first name not indicated] to assist Dr. Eskey at the Pawtucketville Isolation Hospital. Until now, he was assisting doctors and nurses in Berlin, New Hampshire.*Eskey bio: “Dr. Eskey, the surgeon at the head of the hospital, is an Illinoisan, having been born in Sterling. He is a rangy youngster, with a mighty cool head who is specially well liked by the hospital staff and by the physicians with whom he has come in contact. In rank he is a first lieutenant in the medical reserve.
