Influenza Conference Planned for Teachers

• The re-opening of the schools is contingent on the teacher instruction meetings, at which Commissioner Guilford will preside. It is expected that the meetings result in an earnest and coordinated effort on the part of the teachers to weed out the pupils who are sick and to take every precautionary measure necessary to stamp out the epidemic among schoolchildren• City Health Commissioner H.M. Guilford explained “When the schools closed, it was evident that influenza was epidemic in some schools and rapidly becoming so in many more. At present we do not know the exact condition in the schools, but it is probable that it is really ameliorated. The closing has been sufficiently long to break the chain of communication among students”• Commissioner H.M. Guilford says that cases reported to the health department and City Hospital are on the decline, though the death rate continues to be high.
