Influenza Wanes Ban Rule Holds

• Influenza reports yesterday were at their lowest ebb in several weeks yesterday• Reports from hospitals and relief agencies also indicate much better conditions• Some of the nurses at the emergency hospital are being released for outside work• Calls for nurses from Inland Empire towns still continue to reach Spokane• Since the opening of the influenza hospital on October 18, 535 patients have been cared for, of whom 60 died- a percentage of deaths to patients of 11.2• Dr. John B. Anderson, City Health Officer was informed that a petition had been placed in circulation asking the city health office to lift the ban from the theaters. Dr. Anderson responded, “I would consider this petition in the same nature as one asking me to permit so many of our citizens consigned to Fairmount or some other city of the dead. This petition involves merely dollars and cents and this is not to be weighed when human life is at stake. The petition would have no more effect on me than water poured upon a duck’s back.”Newspaper article
