Flu Cases Show Further Decline

• Dr. Corput, Dr. Robin, Arthur Parker, and Mayor Behrman discussed the universal use of the anti-influenza vaccine in New Orleans in a meeting on Friday afternoon. • According to Mayor Behrman, Dr. Corput will wire Surgeon General Blue to ask his opinion about the use of the vaccine. • Mr. Parker has offered to pay $1,000 to procure vaccinations for the poor of New Orleans. • Mr. Parker stated that there have been no cases in the big stores where employees were vaccinated. • Dr. Robin expects to see the number of new cases of influenza in New Orleans fall off slowly every day.• Authorities are said to be at their most optimistic since the epidemic began. • Influenza is costing 1,000,000 to 1,200,000 tons of anthracite output per month. Collieries have had to shut down all throughout the anthracite region. Many miners are sick with influenza. • Dr. A. M. Haas of Bunkie, LA protested the State Board of Health’s closure of all cotton gins. Although the situation in Bunkie has improved, Dr. Dowling says the State Board of Health cannot make exceptions.
