Epidemic Workers Thanked For Help

• Mayor Gainer issued a statement yesterday thanking all individuals and organizations that helped in the fight against the epidemic• Gainer: “’I desire to thank publicly all those who assisted the community in the recent epidemic of influenza. Although the situation here was extremely serious, the fatalities did not reach the alarming number recorded in some of our sister cities, owing in a large measure to the splendid community spirit of co-operation manifested by our people.’”• Gainer specifically thanked Chapin, the Providence District Nursing Assoc., and the doctors of the city• Health department nurses worked for free, providing service to the District Nursing Assoc. as well as City Hospital – a total of 150 days worth of service• Gainer thanked the Red Cross for its Motor Corps, who took nurses to their cases every day, and for its Home Service, which visited families of soldiers who had influenza• The Sisters of Mercy, the Sisters of Notre Dame, and the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary all did service either in homes or in the hospitalsNewspaper article1
