Disease Is Here; Precautions Urged

• Health Officer W.H. Peters announced that the first diagnosed case of Spanish influenza in Cincinnati has been reported. Doctors are not required to report the illness, but Dr. Peters requests that physicians do so.• The patient is Mrs. George P. Topmiller who recently returned from Camp Lee where she had visited her husband. Dr. George P. Topmiller is a lieutenant in the medical corps. Camp Lee currently suffers 700 cases.• After she returned she visited Robert A. Albrecht of 227 Forest Ave. and became ill. Dr. A.P. Renecker responded.• Health Officer Peters indicated that precautions should be the same as those against diphtheria and scarlet fever.• Following Dr. Peters’ announcement, physicians at General Hospital announced that they had isolated two cases of Spanish influenza. These patients are Earl Martin of the Student Army Training Corps, University of Cincinnati, and Private Hugh Price, a soldier from Oklahoma who became ill at Pennsylvania Station.Newspaper article
