A comparative study on honorific between Japanese and Chinese especially on its concepts, classification, origin and change etc. was accomplished. The important achievements are summarized as follows: 1. The honorific concept and its purpose are basically in common between Japanese and Chinese. 2. The origin of Chinese honorific is completely different from the one of Japanese honorific. 3. The classification of Japanese honorific is similar to Chinese one in some aspects but much more systematic. 4.Both the Japanese honorific and Chinese honorific change as the times change. The former is represented mainly in language form, skills and application, and however the later focused on its application conditions
